丹之寶（TANSBAO Gallery）將推出代理藝術家夏達・什雷斯塔（Shraddha Shrestha）「奇境日常：夏達・什雷斯塔新作個展」。作為當代尼泊爾少數活躍於國際藝術舞台的女性藝術家之一，夏達・什雷斯塔以獨樹一幟的視覺語言，將喜馬拉雅地區的宗教文化、神話圖像與九〇年代流行動畫美學交織融合，以鮮明且充滿童趣的角色形象，重新想像古老神話於當代視覺文化中的樣貌。
出生並成長於尼泊爾古城帕坦（Patan）的夏達・什雷斯塔（Shraddha Shrestha），畢業於英國格拉斯哥藝術學院（Glasgow School of Art），現居加德滿都，身兼視覺藝術家、插畫家與壁畫家。自 2011 年起，她便活躍於加德滿都街頭藝術圈，為插畫家聯盟 Virangana Comics 成員，並參與出版尼泊爾首部全女性創作漫畫選集。
成長於寺廟林立、祭典文化深厚的歷史古城，使她自幼浸潤於宗教圖像與民間信仰之中，而童年時期深受《飛天小女警》、《德克斯特的實驗室》等西方動畫影響，亦成為其創作的重要養分，形塑出極具辨識度的個人創作語彙。她筆下充滿幻想色彩的人物角色，揉合尼泊爾傳統藝術、宗教圖像與流行文化記憶，在鮮明的色彩與童趣造型之中，開展出獨樹一幟的當代視覺敘事。
本次個展將呈現藝術家延續 2024 年於魯賓藝術博物館（Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art）二十週年展《Reimagining Himalayan Art Now》所發展的最新創作系列。在此次展出系列中，藝術家以外太空作為神話人物存在的想像場域，透過飽和鮮明的色彩、圓潤可愛的卡通人物與幽默的敘事方式，重新演繹印度教與佛教神話中的神祇、護法與宗教象徵。印度教與佛教神話中多頭、多手、異色肌膚等神祇形象，與西方動畫及科幻電影中的外星生物有著耐人尋味的相似性。這樣的聯想成為她創作的重要起點，也引發她對宗教、宇宙與想像力的持續探索：如果神祇來自遙遠的宇宙，如果神話存在於另一個銀河，那麼信仰與幻想、宗教與流行文化之間是否能產生新的對話？
對藝術家而言，這些神祇並非遙不可及的宗教象徵。正如她所說：「許多時候，神祇與宗教圖像所承載的意義既複雜又令人感到距離遙遠。因此，我選擇以帶有童趣的角色形象重新詮釋祂們，讓自己更容易理解這些神祇，也更能感受祂們所象徵與傳達的信念與精神。」
另一方面，成長於紐瓦麗（Newar）家庭的經驗，使她長期浸潤於傳統文化與宗教信仰之中，也讓她觀察到女性在社會中所受到的規範與限制，卻同時看見人們對女性神祇的崇敬與信仰。這樣的反差成為她持續探討的重要命題，並透過作品試圖打破既有框架，以更自由且貼近當代的視角，重新審視女性力量與宗教象徵之間的關係。她將成長於帕坦古城的生活記憶、喜馬拉雅地區悠久的宗教文化，與陪伴自己成長的童年交織融合，以孩童般純真的觀看方式，重新理解那些原本龐大而複雜的神話系統，並透過色彩繽紛、充滿生命力的角色，邀請觀眾以當代的視角走進古老文明豐富而多元的精神世界。
此次個展，丹之寶期望持續推動喜馬拉雅當代藝術於亞洲的交流與對話，引領觀眾看見新世代尼泊爾藝術家如何以自身文化為根基，在傳統與當代之間發展出獨特的創作語言，並重新思考神話、信仰與女性力量在當代社會中的意義。
關於藝術家：
Shraddha Shrestha 是尼泊爾加德滿都的獨立壁畫家、插畫家和視覺藝術家，擁有來自格拉斯哥藝術學院的插畫設計碩士學位。自 2011 年以來，Shraddha Shrestha 一直活躍於加德滿都的街頭藝術圈。
Shraddha Shrestha 目前是插畫家聯盟 Virangana Comics 的成員，並且出版了尼泊爾首部全女性漫畫選集。成長於藝術氛圍濃厚的巴坦市，對她作為藝術家的成長過程產生了深遠的影響。她的許多作品圍繞著幻想中的人物，大多數人物的靈感都來自尼泊爾的傳統藝術形式和圖標，以及藝術家小時候看過的卡通人物，這些角色反映了她的童年時光和傳統的生活環境。
Shraddha 善於將傳統印度教神祇形象以卡通造型重新翻玩，將街頭藝術與傳統結合，為尼泊爾當代藝術注入新活力。

Tansbao Gallery is pleased to present Otherworldly Ordinaries: Recent Works by Shraddha Shrestha, a solo exhibition by represented artist Shraddha Shrestha. Among the few Nepali women artists active on the international contemporary art scene, Shrestha has developed a distinctive visual language that brings together Himalayan religious traditions, mythology, and the visual culture of 1990s animation. Through vibrant colors and playful imagery, she reimagines sacred narratives for contemporary audiences.
Born and raised in the historic city of Patan, Nepal, Shrestha graduated from the Glasgow School of Art and is currently based in Kathmandu, where she works as a visual artist, illustrator, and muralist. Since 2011, she has been actively involved in Kathmandu’s street art movement and is a member of Virangana Comics, the collective behind Nepal’s first all-women comics anthology.
Growing up surrounded by temples, festivals, and daily religious practices, Shrestha developed a deep familiarity with Hindu and Buddhist iconography. At the same time, Western cartoons such as The Powerpuff Girls and Dexter’s Laboratory shaped her visual imagination, inspiring the playful aesthetic that characterizes her work today.
The exhibition presents a new body of work developed following Shrestha’s participation in Reimagining Himalayan Art Now, the Rubin Museum’s 20th-anniversary exhibition in 2024. In these recent paintings, the artist imagines outer space as a realm inhabited by deities, protectors, and mythological beings. Drawing on visual parallels between the exaggerated forms of Hindu and Buddhist figures and the fantastical creatures of animation and science fiction, she transforms sacred iconography into colorful, approachable characters that exist between mythology and popular culture.
A recurring theme throughout Shrestha’s practice is the contrast between the elevated status of female deities and the realities experienced by women in traditional societies. Raised within a Newar family deeply rooted in religious customs, she observed both the reverence directed toward goddesses and the social expectations imposed upon women. Her works revisit these inherited narratives through humor, imagination, and contemporary visual language, offering new perspectives on femininity, power, and belief.
Through this exhibition, Tansbao Gallery continues its commitment to presenting contemporary Himalayan art to Asian audiences. Rooted in local cultural traditions while engaging with global visual culture, Shrestha’s work offers an imaginative lens through which mythology, identity, and feminine agency can be reconsidered today.
About the artist：
Shraddha Shrestha is an independent muralist, illustrator, and visual artist based in Kathmandu. She has a master’s degree in design in illustration from the Glasgow School of Art. Shraddha Shrestha has been active in the street art scene in Kathmandu since 2011. She is currently part of an illustrators collective called Virangana Comicsm and has published the first all-women comics anthology in Nepal. Growing up in the aesthetically rich city of Patan has played a big part in her journey as an artist. Much of her art is about fantastical characters which are a reflection of her childhood days and the traditional surroundings.
Shraddha is celebrated for her playful reimagining of traditional Hindu deities, transforming them through a vibrant, cartoon-inspired lens. By seamlessly blending edgy street art aesthetics with deep-rooted cultural heritage, she injects a fresh, dynamic vitality into Nepal’s contemporary art scene.
